Top Five Quotes: True Blood Season 3 Episode 2 ~Beautifully Broken

It’s a good week for True Blood.  The tales of Sookie Stackhouse will continue for a 4th season, summer 2011. President of HBO programming, Michael Lombardo says;

The new season of True Blood is off to a terrific start, as enthusiasm for this unique show continues to build among both subscribers and critics. We’re looking forward to more chills from Alan Ball and his gifted team next year.”

Now onto…

Top Five Quotes:  True Blood Season 3 Episode 2 ~Beautifully Broken

5. Bill is no Godric

Eric: Please don’t do that. It makes me feel…disturbingly human.

Context: A distraught Sookie tries to convince  Eric to help her find Bill. Eric is unmoved…or so it seems.

Why It Made The List: Since Godric’s death is season 2, Eric has been different.  He’s still cocky, and stubborn, a looks good naked, but there is a new emotion brewing behind his eyes.  He tries to hide it, but in this simple statement we see the cracks in his facade. It sums up the change in Eric, whether he realizes it or not.

4. Welcoming a guest

Talbot: I just redecorated the guest room. Wait ’til you see the bed. Bill, it’s marvelous. It once belonged to Countess Elizabeth Bathory, Hungary’s legendary serial killer.  Rumour has it that she loved to torture virgins and bathe in their blood.

Context: The King of Mississippi is behind Bill’s Kidnapping but calls him a guest. His man, Talbot, tries to make Bill comfortable.

Why It Made The List: What better way to make a man comfortable under suspicious circumstances than to give him a serial killer’s bed? Talbot is proud of his decorating as he describes Bill’s home away from home.  Luxury coupled with weirdness is the perfect was to introduce the King of Mississippi’s world.

3. Jason gets a shock

Jason: There’s werewolves?
Sookie: Yes.
Jason: Holy shit. Bigfoot, is he real too?
Sookie: I don’t know. I guess it’s possible.
Jason: Santa?

Context: Sookie comes home to find Jason in her house and reveals that the world is stranger than he realizes.

Why It Made The List: This quote is pure Jason Stackhouse.  Forget the insightful Jason of last episode,we’re back to the wide-eyed wonder of the not-so-bright Stackhouse.  Always the optimist, if vampires and werewolves exist, why not the good things?  Santa Claus.  It could happen.

2.  True Blood is in on the joke

Sookie: Every sound I hear, every time the phone rings, every shadow in the corner of my eye, I think it’s Bill. I keep expecting him to come through the door and say [Bad Bill Impression]… Sookah.

Context: Sookie tells Jason of Bill’s kidnapping.

Why It Made the List: It made me actually laugh out loud.  Sometimes being self referencing pulls you out of the story, but in this it’s plausible.  How can all of Bon Temps keep a straight face with Bill yelling ‘Sookah!’ all over town?

1.  Terry and the kids

Terry: Ten reasons why you can trust me with your kids: Number one, I’m a nurturer. I found a baby armadillo by the side of the road, and I nursed it, and now it sleeps under my bed, and its name is Felix. Number two, I have a diploma, from anger management, where I learned talking about your feelings is a manly thing to do. Number three [Arlene runs past him, to the bathroom], number three, I never kill nothin’ by accident. Number four…

Context:  Unaware that Arlene is pregnant, Terry tried to convince her to give him a chance with her kids.

Why It Made The List: This was a great Terry episode and there were a few quotes I could have chosen, but this one summed up everything I love about the character. He’s caring and kind.  He means well, and wants to do good by everyone, even though there is always something a little off. Only Terry would cite ‘shooting people on purpose’ in attempt to look after children. And of course, there was an armadillo…
